The house in the city center of Miercurea Ciuc is one of the few remnants of the cities` old image. Since its construction in 1905 it was almost unchanged, and the few alterations which happened during its lifetime are easy to recognise.
The L shaped main building facing the street will be restored with a “low-tech” attitude, keeping as much as possible from the original structure. The rest is rethinked by amplifying the use of the courtyard through the connection of the different terrain levels and by a new roof terrace in the back of the garden.
With this project we intend to give back some of the dignity and optimism which can be felt on the historic images of the city, and make it again a living mixed-use house.
We propose a gradual restoration and constant adaptation to the ever-emerging needs and possibilities.
As a first step of the project, the former “owner`s suite” is restored and occupied by small office spaces, removing only non-structural building parts which were added later to the existing configuration.
